A Brief Insight into the Artwork
Thaw is a testament to Krasner's unique ability to blend gestural abstraction with organic forms. Created in the 1950s, this work reflects her interest in nature and the subconscious. The title suggests a process of melting or release, and the painting's fluid lines and overlapping shapes evoke a sense of transformation. Krasner often worked on the floor, pouring and sweeping paint, which gave her compositions a spontaneous, kinetic quality. This piece is a perfect example of her mastery in balancing control and improvisation.
